Anthony Baker of the Gruffyground Press commissioned Keith Pettit for a wood engraving of Ha’naker Mill to illustrate Hilaire Belloc’s poem of the same name. The Gruffyground project faltered and Anthony kindly passed the block on to me for my use. I’ve read Belloc for most of my life – “A young man’s writer" said Bernard Levin of him, erroneously in my view – and am pleased to publish this folorn but prescient poem at the same time as continuing the press’ enthusiasm for the wood-engraved illustration.
Single-section booklet of Hilaire Belloc’s‘ Ha’naker Mill, set in Bodoni, available in 2024 when Belloc escapes copyright.
