Peter Burnhill ~ An Excursion

Disregarded for years on the press room shelves have been three boxes of Monotype Ornaments which came to me from the Kit Cat press of the late Ken Hardacre. They were designed by the late Peter Burnhill in the early 60s, an act on the surface somewhat out of character for a academic and erudite typographer. I can't think of a better word than 'seduced' to describe my belated fascination with this type. Encouraged by his friend Robert Kinross of the Hyphen Press I plan a slim volume Peter Burnhill ~ An Excursion. The earlier 18pt border 'Carnival' has been cast for me at the Effra Press. A visit to Burnhill's daughter is planned to view his personal archive, in particular his work as a wood engraver.
